Suppliers in China. Does the perfect supplier exist?
Every company has a different function. When we look for a supplier in China, we must be clear in recognizing that person or company have what is right to supply our company.
We must do our best effort to avoid running into scammers, but only time and work will tell you who is who.
We have worked and bought many small companies that work perfectly, with good prices, deliveries on time, excellent quality and carefulness in the job. We have also bought huge companies that have enormously delayed.
To say the truth, we prefer working with small companies that give more importance to our order, rather than large companies that consider us as just another order.
As they say in the USA: “low profile, high performance”.
What makes a supplier in China really perfect?
When we say that time is needed to know who is who, we mean it´s impossible to know beforehand what a company is going to do when we face a big problem, when there are huge production delays or when some import part of the machinery breaks down during the warranty year.
It´s impossible to see, during the factory visit, whether the supplier is to assume his responsibility for any kind of damage or will try to run away from any compensation payments.
Another unpredictable thing is whether the supplier is going to sell others the product in whose molds we invested money, development time, etc. That´s impossible to determine in just one factory visit and these are things from which you have to protect yourself.
How to prevent problems with the manufacturers?
It´s necessary that exists a contract that foresees all these possible scenarios and, still much better, that it does so between two local companies. To do this, you must make the purchase through an agent with a company established in China, or have a representative office in the country that, beyond covering your back, has tax advantages.
